Deux: "Game And Performance" (Category Analog CyberPunk: New Wave Edition) France birthed this keeper in 1983. In this quiet apocalypse, potable water costs more than gasoline. After reading numerous cyberpunk fiction stories, I noticed reoccurring themes in these stories. P. arrives in 70 CE, it is clear that PKD considered the main "communication receiver" on this planet to be the Temple of Solomon. Science-Fiction Studies 19.2 (July 1992): 219-35. To me, SF has always been somewhat boring where it presents a shiny and incredibly advanced science as the central story element.

Count Zero (1986) and Mona Lisa Overdrive (1988) followed after Gibson's popular debut novel. I'd second some of the recommendations already provided on more recent reads - try the Tad Williams' Otherland series - it takes many of the concepts from cyberpunk and applies them into a character rich, complicated sim world. It is, however, undeniable that cyberpunk captured genre's collective imagination, with a cultural influence that has reached far beyond the relatively small confines of science fiction fandom.
